Trustee Board

NIGEL BROWN OBE (Chair)
Nigel Brown has played a key role in Cambridge business for over 30 years, from being founder and Chairman of investment management company The NW Brown Group from 1974 to 2007. He is Chairman of the Greater Cambridge Partnership, The Great Eastern Investment Forum and IQ Capital Partners, was Chairman of the University of Cambridge Audit Committee until December 2010, and an external member of the University Council. His many charitable interests include The Stradivari Trust (his own personal charity), The Great Fen Project, the Family Mediation Service and Camsight.
Nigel was awarded the individual Queen’s Award for Enterprise Support in July 2007 and was named an OBE in the New Year’s Honours List in January 2008. He is High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire for 2010/2011.

He was officially elected Chair of the Board in September 2010.

COUNCILLOR FRANCES AMRANI
Frances represents South Cambridgeshire District Council on the Board of Trustees.

DR ALAN BAKER
A historical geographer with a special interest in 19th century France, Alan has been a Fellow of Emmanuel College since 1970 and was Vice-Master from 1990 to 1994. He served as a Councillor on Cambridge City Council from 2002-2010 and was Chair of the city's Planning Committee from 2003-2010.

PETER CHAPPLE
After a first career in the British Army from 1948-1962, Peter joined the National Health Service where he held two Chief Officer posts in London and Cambridge until his retirement in 1986. He was the Domestic Bursar at Newnham College from 1987-1995 and has been a member of Cambridge CAB Trustee Board since 1996.

KATE ELWICK-POOLE
Kate is an experienced Trust fundraiser, currently working with Emmaus UK, one of the country’s leading support charities for homeless people. She has previously worked for organisations such as Raleigh International and the British Executive Services Overseas (merged with VSO in 2005) Kate holds a Certificate in Fundraising Management from the Institute of Fundraising.

BILL HUMPHREY
A University of Cambridge Economics alumnus, Bill’s varied career took him from the Commonwealth Office in the 1960s to the World Bank in Washington, where he held various posts around the globe between 1964 and 1994. He has been a Tutor at the University of the Third Age since 1995 and was a General Adviser at Cambridge CAB between 1996 and 2008. He joined the Board in 2010.

DR DAVID LIVESEY
After graduating in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College, David became a postgraduate student at Christ’s College Cambridge looking at the modelling and control of the UK economy. A career in academic life followed: David lectured at Cambridge from 1975 and in 1992 became the Secretary General of the Faculties. In 2000 he was appointed to be the first Director of the prestigious Cambridge-MIT Institute.
After retiring from the University of Cambridge, he was appointed Secretary General of LERU (the League of European Research Universities) for a three-year term. David has worked in a voluntary capacity for many Cambridge charities, including the Bedford Charity, and is a member of the Fulbourn Mental Health Trust.
He joined the Cambridge CAB Trustee Board in 2004 and was Chair from 2004-2010. He is also a member of the national Citizens Advice Board.
David is a Life Fellow at Emmanuel College Cambridge.

PATRICK MELLIS
Patrick represents the interests of the Bureau’s Volunteers on the Board. He has been advising at Cambridge CAB and at our outreach at Addenbrooke’s Hospital since 2007. He spent most of his career in senior marine consultancy in Aberdeen and London.

PAUL RAY
Paul Ray also represents the interests of the Bureau's Volunteers. He has been a Volunteer General Adviser at the Bureau since 2003, and a Duty Worker since 2005. His other charitable interests are the Cambridge Central Aid Society and the Villiers Park Educational Trust.
As a graduate in Chemical Engineering from Jesus College Cambridge, Paul spent over 40 years working for ICI; latterly he ran an international business and was Chairman/CEO of its regional operations in the UK and USA. He chairs the trustees of a UK company pension scheme.

DR GEORGE REID
George is nominated as a Trustee by the University of Cambridge and has served on the Board since 2003. He was formerly a University Lecturer in Mathematics and Senior Bursar at St John’s College Cambridge. He is an Honorary member of Cambridge City Council and has wide experience as a charity trustee.
His particular expertise is in legal and property matters, including charity law.

DR DAVID SKINNER
As Reader in Sociology in the Faculty of Arts, Law and Social Sciences at Anglia Ruskin University, David leads on Social Policy matters for the Board. His latest research focuses on the politics of data and uses the Police National DNA Database as a case study.
David has previously played a leading role in funded research projects studying various topics, including equality, diversity and community engagement in the public services. He was until recently an LTN Business Fellow.

COUNCILLOR CAROLINE SHEPHERD
Caroline is Vice-Chair of Cambridge CAB Trustee Board and represents the interests of Cambridgeshire County Council.

KEITH STONELL
A Chartered Engineer, Keith’s career focused on managing the environmental impact of waste management, firstly with Cambridgeshire County Council and then with the Environment Agency. Issues in his portfolio included flood defence and flood warning; water resources management; regulation of process industries, radioactive substances, waste and water quality.
Keith joined the Cambridge CAB Board in 2009.

ADJOA TAMAKLOE
A qualified practising solicitor, Adjoa is Senior Assistant Registrary/Senior Commercial Lawyer in the Legal Services Office at the University of Cambridge and was for three years Company Secretary to Cambridge University Technical Services Limited, a wholly owned commercial subsidiary of the University. Adjoa is an Accredited Commercial Mediator Community Mediator with the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) and has 14 years’ experience as a commercial and workplace mediator and facilitator.
Adjoa is also a member of the Law Society of England and Wales.S

SARAH WELLS (Treasurer)
Sarah is a freelance financial manager specialising in the cultural industries and not-for-profit sector. She has worked with a range of arts and film clients in London and Glasgow and was a senior manager within the arts for fifteen years. She was Executive Director of the Arches in Glasgow from 1996 – 2002 and oversaw a £4m capital redevelopment of this leading cultural venue. She was instrumental in setting up the film production house Film City Glasgow in 2004 and is a member of their board. She was also an advisor to the Cultural Enterprise Office from 2004 – 2007 prior to moving to Cambridge. She joined the board of Citizens Advice Cambridge as Treasurer in 2009.

GEOFF WILSON
Born in Newcastle on Tyne, Geoff was educated at the University of Cape Town and at Cambridge. He has spent much of his life working in the food manufacturing and distribution industry in Zimbabwe, South Africa and the UK. He was MD of the Rhodesian Food Corporation and General Foods South Africa.
Since his retirement in 2002, Geoff has become Chairman of the MS Mid Anglia Region and joined the Cambridge CAB Board in 2004.
