Cambridge CAB Christmas Appeal 2010:
Warm a neighbour’s Christmas
Want to make a real difference to someone’s life this Christmas? At Cambridge CAB we have launched an appeal to make sure that elderly and vulnerable people in our community keep warm this year. Why not donate any unwanted Winter Fuel Payments to Cambridge Central Aid Society so that they can help local people in need?
Central Aid is a charitable trust that was founded in 1880 as a joint venture between Town and Gown to provide a structure for giving help to the poor of the area. These days, its Trustees meet twice a month at the Cambridge CAB to consider applications from local people in need, and are proud to say that they never turn away a deserving person.
This year they have given a total of over £40,000 in grants to local individuals. Typically, half the referrals come from the CAB, others come from housing associations and most of the local charities who help people suffering from domestic, alcohol or drug abuse, or who have disabilities or mental health problems.
At Cambridge CAB we are recording increasing levels of fuel debt enquiries – a staggering 139% for the month of October 2010 compared with the same month last year.
So, if you fancy giving the gift of warmth to someone’s Christmas, give a little to Central Aid. Any donation, however small, will go a long way to making someone’s Christmas more special. If you are a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid will make your donation go even further.
Cheques should be made payable to ‘Cambridge Central Aid Society’ and sent to:
Kate Flannery, Cambridge CAB, 66 Devonshire Road, Cambridge CB1 2BL.
