Cambridge & District Citizens Advice Bureau is celebrating Volunteers' Week (1-12 June) by thanking our fantastic team of volunteers.
We have 133 volunteers who work as advisers, receptionists, administrators, information assistants, and in other roles. Our volunteers gave more than 30,000 hours of their time last year – that’s the equivalent of nearly half a million pounds (£496,400).
Rachel Talbot, CEO of Cambridge CAB, said:
“This week is a great opportunity to say a huge thank you to our volunteers, whose contribution is essential to the work that we do. We’d like to thank all our volunteers for sharing their valuable time and skills to help local people solve their problems.”
Meet some of our volunteers
Carole, Generalist Adviser
“I enjoy helping people find a way to deal with their problems and keeping my brain ticking with the challenges we come across.”
Carole has been volunteering at Cambridge CAB for 17 years, which makes her one of our longest-serving volunteers. As a Generalist Adviser, Carole helps clients to deal with their problems by listening, finding appropriate information and suggesting options to resolve the problem. When she’s not at CAB, Carole likes to travel
Tony, Generalist Adviser
“Every problem is different because everyone’s different. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the clients.”
Tony has been volunteering with us for 12 years. He enjoys being an adviser because it requires both empathy and problem-solving skills. Before joining CAB, Tony ran his own company for 40 years. He’s also volunteered with the Samaritans. Tony's passionate about theatre and he enjoys both watching and performing in plays.
Caroline and Morice
Caroline and Morice are reception volunteers. Caroline is also a trustee of Cambridge CAB, and Morice is training to be an adviser.
Reception volunteers welcome clients and other visitors, look after the waiting area, and collect and record information.
