Volunteers Week 1st-7th June

From the 1st-7th June, we are celebrating our volunteers for all the amazing work they have done at Cambridge Citizens Advice. We wouldn’t be able to do it without them! ✨

Our volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences but they all give up their free time to help the community, whoever they are and whatever problem they face. Our volunteers perform a variety of roles including giving advice to our clients, providing administrative support, and many more. No matter what role they’re in, we appreciate and are grateful for the work they do at Cambridge Citizens Advice.

Here’s what some of our volunteers have to say about the work they do:

‘I found the training challenging but good preparation for advising clients. Every day on our helpline is different and learning is constant: sometimes about the challenges clients face; sometimes about the help available; sometimes about myself’

‘I became a volunteer to try to give a little back to the city in which I’ve lived for over 30 years. It’s fascinating work and keeps my brain active!’

‘Volunteering has definitely broadened my horizons. I find the job very rewarding and interesting, no two days are ever the same. It’s a nice feeling when you are able to help someone in need and hopefully make a difference’

‘I began volunteering almost 10 years ago, though the time since then seems to have flown by.  I started as a generalist advisor, but after the first few years more and more of what I’ve been doing has been with benefits.  Cases I deal with myself cover a wide range of durations, ranging from clients who need just a single telephone call or email reply, to those whose benefit situation takes months to resolve and ends with supporting them through an appeal hearing.  Of course it feels good to be able to help people, but I have to admit that the greatest satisfaction comes from “winning a case” and to correct it to be fair to our client.’

‘Knowing that we can help so many of the people who contact the organisation is very rewarding. Being one of their volunteers is one of the best thing’s I’ve ever done…and hopefully it makes a difference to our multitude of clients’

‘Being a volunteer means I can help to solve a client’s problem and at the same time get some personal satisfaction. It also helps to keep the brain ticking over!’

Thank you to all our volunteers for all the work you do, we couldn’t do it without you!✨
